Today's Reading
Numbers 9-11; Revelation 18

Numbers 9 deals with the Passover. Moses was told by God to celebrate the Passover at the appointed time. Some were not able to celebrate the Passover because they were ceremonially unclean because of a dead body. God allowed those who were ceremonially unclean because of a dead body, or away on a journey to still participate in the Passover. They could still celebrate but it was in the second month thus having a legitimate delay for a month. Those who were ceremonially clean and was not on a journey but neglected to observe the Passover must be cut off from the people. An alien living among the Israelites could celebrate the Passover provided he did in the prescribed manner set by God. This is encouraging to me. Because God was even concerned about the aliens, the outsider who could get close to Him. This reminds of Jesus reaching out to the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7.24-30, where she acknowledged that when Jesus said to her: 27 Jesus told her, "First I should help my own family, the Jews. It isn't right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs." 28 She replied, "That's true, Lord, but even the dogs under the table are given some crumbs from the children's plates." (NLT) The Jews had called the Gentiles dogs, in Jesus' day. She acknowledged that she had no right to asked Jesus to heal her daughter, but she was willing to accept whatever help she could get from Him.
v. 15-23 spoke about the cloud above the tabernacle. At night the cloud looked like fire. Whenever the cloud lifted up the Israelites set out, whenever, it settled, the
Israelites camped. The cloud above the tabernacle was symbolic of God's presence. The Lord directed the movement of the camp by the cloud.

Numbers 10.1-10 deals with two silver trumpets. God had instructed Moses to make two trumpets of hammered silver. When both trumpets were blown, the whole community was to assemble before Moses at the entrance of the tabernacle. If one only one is sounded, the leaders are to assemble before Moses at the entrance of the tabernacle. There were other signals that were to be used.

Numbers 10.11-35 deals with the people of Israel leaving Mount Sinai. In the second year, the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle. The Israelites followed the cloud from place to place until it came to resting the Desert of Paran. There was an order in the March starting with the Levite carrying the ark followed by tribe of Judah, Issachar and Zebulun. Next the Gershonites and Meraraites carrying the tabernacle followed by the tribes of Reuben, Simeon and Gad. The Kohathites were next carrying the tabernacle furnishings, They were followed by the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh and Benjamin. Picking up the rear guard was Dan, Asher and Naphthali. The ark was always in front of the march. Whenever the ark set out, Moses said these words in
Num 10.35-36 God is a God of order, planning and logic. The march of the Israelites was done in an orderly fashion. Notice tah the ark was always in front leading the march. God should always leading us in our battles and rest.

Numbers 11 discussed Fire from the Lord. The people again complained. God sent fire to punish them. When they cried out to the Lord to have mercy on them the fire stopped. God sent quail (v.4-35) Again, they complained. They thought about the food they had back in Egypt. They were tired of manna! They wanted something else. They got quail, but they had to pay a price for it. God struck them with a plague. The place is called Kibroth Hattavah, because there they buried the people who craved other food. Let us be careful to be thankful for what we have. Sometimes, we crave for something that we don't really need and we have to pay the price for it.

Today's Reading
Numbers 7-8; Revelation 17

Numbers 7 This was a big day for Israel! The tabernacle was set up and Moses anointed and consecrated it. There was the delegation of the leaders of Israel, the head of families, made offerings to the Lord. Everyone turned out in their best clothes for the day. They brought their gifts before the Lord, six covered carts and twelve oxen-an ox from each leader and a cart from every two- God told Moses to accept the gifts which would be used for work in the tabernacle.

Moses gave two carts and four oxen to the Gershonites and the Merarites received four carts and eight oxen but the Kohahthites did not receive any oxen nor carts. The Kohahtites had to carry the tabernacle furniture on their shoulder (Num 3.30-31, 4.15). According to Warren Wiersbe's With the Word Commentary "Everybody but the Kohathites could use the carts for their work. The sons of Kohath had to carry the tabernacle furniture on their shoulders (Num 3:30–31;4:15). Although there are some burdens others can help us bear, “each one shall bear his own load” (Gal. 6:1–5). David disobeyed this law and brought judgment from God (2 Sam. 6:1–15). Don’t refuse the burdens; God will enable you to carry them."

Please note that a leader from each tribe brought an offering every day for twelve consecutive days. They offered the BEST that they had. This continued for twelve days. As Christians we should remember to bring our offering, our bodies, our lives (Rom 12.1) to God everyday to worship and to fellowship with him.

Numbers 8 spoke about the setting up of the lamps. See link

The Levites were consecrated in a ceremony. They purified themselves with water, washed their clothes. Aaron then presented them as a wave offering before the Lord, and made an atonement for them so they could be a holy people. After that they went to work in the tabernacle under the direction of Aaron and his sons. Men twenty-five or older would take part in the work at the Tabernacle.
God had chosen the Levites and no longer require the giving of the the first-born sons of Israelite women as was done in Egypt.

Numbers 5-6; Revelation 16

Numbers 5.1-4 discusses purity in terms of isolating those who had infectious skin diseases, or a discharge of any kind from the rest of the camp. This was to keep the community healthy.
Numbers 5.5-10 discusses restitution for wrongs. v. 11-31 has the test the priest must do to see if the wife was unfaithful.

Numbers 6 talks about the Nazirite vow. The person, man or woman, who is a Nazirite makes a vow of separation to the Lord. He must abstain from wine and other fermented drinks or eat anything from the grapevine. The person must let the hair of his head grow long, he cannot go near a dead body even it is his parent's. Check the commentaries below for further details.
Aaron is suppose to bless the people with this benediction that is well known to Christians and is very comforting to hear it.
Num 6.24-25 It is not only a great benediction but the words make you realize it is God who doing the work in your life, blessing, keeping, making His presence known to you and giving you His peace. This was probably the first benediction given to a community of people.

Today's Reading
Numbers 3-4; Revelation 15

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Numbers 3; Numbers 4; Revelation 15

Numbers 3 spoke about the Levites, who they were, the role they had to play among the Israelite community. The Levites were consecrated to the Lord and their role was to attend to the tabernacle. The Levites came from the family of Moses and Levi. Nadab and Abihu and died because they had offered unauthorized fire to the Lord. (Lev 10.1-3). This had demonstated to the people that God was a holy God and things had to be done according to the regulations set up in Leviticus. The Levites were to take care fo the tabernacle, the furnishings and anything related to the tabernacle. The Levites were completely dedicated to Aaron and were aolely dedicated to the tabernacle. God took the Levites from among the Israelites instead of the firstborn of all males in the community.
The names of the sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari. The Gershonites were responsible for the care of the structure of tabernacle such as curtain, tent, coverings, etc. and was to camp west of the tabernacle. The Kohathites were were responsible for the care of the sanctuary, its furnishings such as the ark, the table, etc. and was to camp south of the tabernacle. The Merarites were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle and were appointed to take care of the frames, crossbars, posts, base, etc. Moses and Aaron and their sons were to camp east of the Tabernacle toward the sunrise in front of the tabernacle. Any non-Levite who approaches the tabernacle would die.

Numbers 4 elaborated in great detail about the Kohathites, the Gershonites and the Merarites. There was also a numbering of the Levite clan. In the marching orders of the tribes: the Levites would carry the Ark; the Gershonites and Merarites carry the tabernacle and the Kohathites carry the tabernacle funishings.

Revelation 15 John saw a sea of people praising God, these were people who were victorious over the devil. The sang the song of Moses. After this he saw seven angels with the seven plagues coming out of the temple. God’s wrath would then be completed. One of the four living creature gave one of the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God. Today's Reading
Numbers 1-2; Revelation 14

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Numbers 1; Numbers 2; Revelation 14

The book of Numbers has to do with the two censuses (Num 1 and Num 26), The English name of the book came from these two censuses. The census was to form a military roster or create a draft system. All men over twenty years old or older and able to fight, were listed by their clans and families. This was done for twelve tribes (of whom two were from the sons of Joseph). The tribe of Levi was exempt. They were responsible for the tabernacle, its furnishings and everything in it. The Levites were the only ones who had anything to do with the tabernacle. If anyone else who comes near the tabernacle were struck dead.
There were some 600,000 men. This implies with men, women and children, the population would be two million. Things have to be done in an orderly fashion. These two million people had to be mobilized, demobilized and settled. If every one decide to do their own thing, any activities would be chaotic. What does this mean to us, today? God is a God of order and logic. We should do things orderly and with good planning.

Numbers 2 describe the arrangement of the Tribal camps. The tribes were to camp as follows: in the East Camp were Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. In the South Camp were Gad, Simeon and Reuben. In the West Camp were Ephraim, Mannasseh and Benjamin and the North Camp were Naphthali, Asher and Dan. In the center of the camp was the tabernacle and the tents of the Levites. When they mobilize they would set out in the same order as they encamped. The application is that the Tabernacle is at the center of the camp and care was taken that the Levites were the only ones to handle the Tabernacle. We should have God as the center of our lives and be careful to be holy as God is holy (Leviticus 18.4) Peter reminded us that as born-again Christians we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood and a holy nation. (1Peter 2.9-10)

Revelation 14, Commentaries, verse by verse

Revelation 14 speaks about the Lamb and the 144,000 (v. 1-5). These were the ones who had the names of God the Father and the Lamb's names written on their foreheads. They sang a new song (which no one else could learn) before the throne, the four living creatures and the elders. They were pure and blameless.

In verses 6-13 was an account of the Three Angels. The First said, 'Fear God and Worship Him'. The Second said 'Babylon is Fallen'. Third warned about wearing the mark of the Beast.

In verse 14-20 spoke about the Harvest of the earth. This is similar to the parable about the growing seed that Jesus gave. When the harvest is ready, they workers will put a sickle to it and harvest the crop.

Will you be ready for the harvest. Will you be wheat or tare when the harvest comes?

Revelation 13 speaks of the beast from the Sea. The background for this information is from Daniel 7.2-7. John saw leopard, lion and bear which are a combined characteristics of Daniel’s four beasts. More information can be found from Guzik link

The beast out of the earth is the false prophet (Revelation 16.13; 19.20; 20.10) In verse 12 the triune of evil is complete, there is satan, the beast of the earth is under the authority of the beast of the sea (satan). According to the NIV Study Bible, Satan, secular power and religious compromise (satan, the antichrist and the false prophet join against cause of God: the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

Ecclesiastes 4-6; Revelation 11

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Ecclesiastes 4; Ecclesiastes 5; Ecclesiastes 6; Revelation 11

Ecclesiastes 4.1-12, Solomom saw oppression, lsbor and its achievements , loneliness and friendlessness. These were all meaningless. V. 13-16 advancement and promotion was also meaningless.

Ecclesiastes 5.1-7 be careful with your tongue and how you make vows. Instead stand in awe of God. In v. 8-20, Solomon should know about wealth, he was the richest man in his time, yet thus was meaningless. Jesus said in Matthew 6.28-29, that Solomon even in all his glory was not dressed like a lily in the field. Jesus was talking about not worrying about your life, or wealth, God will take care of everything in your life.

Ecclesiates 6 continued the discourse on the meaningless of wealth. A man may be wealthy but he cannot enjoy his wealth instead a stranger enjoys his wealth.

Ecclesiastes 7, Solomon was the wisest man in his time, he was famed for using the sword to resolve which of the two prostitutes was the mother of the baby, his wisom in answering the questions from the Queen of Sheba (1Kings 4.29-34; 1Kings 10)

Let us face the fact ALL that companionship, material possessions, wisdom that we have, we CANNOT take it us when we die, except our faith in Jesus Christ. Then in eternal light, all the works, dreams, ambitions and promotions are meaningless IF Jesus Christ is not the Lord and Savior of our lives.

Today's Reading Daniel 5-7; Revelation 7

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Daniel 5; <Daniel 6; Daniel 7; Revelation 7

Daniel 5 – 7
Daniel 5: Belshazzar was now king of Babylon and was a grandson or descendant of Nebuchadnezzar. He had a banquet and told his servants to bring in the silver and gold goblets that Nebuchadnezzar captured from the Temple in Jerusalem. They started to drink from the goblets when the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the wall. The king turned pale and his knees knocked. He called in the wise men of Babylon and asked what was written on the wall. No one could answer him. The queen mentioned Daniel to the king, of his previous experience in interpreting dreams. Daniel intreptred what was written on the wall which meant that Mene: God had numbered his days; Tekel: the king was weighed and found wanting; and Perses; the kingdom would be divided and given to the Medes and Persians. Daniel was rewarded, That night Belshazzar was killed and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom.

Daniel 6 Daniel was put in the den of lions because the bureaucrats were jealous of his abilities. They came up with the edict for Darius to sign: Any one who prays to another god will be thrown in the lions’ den. What a setup! Or so they thought. Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den but was spared. The bureaucrats along with their families were thrown into the lions’ den.
King Darius was worried about Daniel and was overjoyed to see him unharmed after spending the night with the lions.

Daniel 7 Daniel had a dream of four beasts (v. 1-14) and the dream was interpreted for him (verses 15-28). In verses 13-14, he saw the Son of Man, the Messiah in the vision, who was enthroned as ruler over the whole earth previously misruled by the four kingdom of men. His kingdom would last forever. This chapter mentions the Lion as babylonia, the bear as Medo-Persia, the leopard as Greece and the terrifying and frightening beast as Rome. Out of Rome would come the Antichrist . Here are some links discussing Daniel 7.

Today's Reading Daniel 3-4; Revelation 6

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Daniel 3; <Daniel 4; Revelation 6

Daniel 3
Nebuchadnezzar built a statute of himself ninety feet high and ordered that at sound of certain musical instruments, the people were to fall down and worship the statute. Well, some astrologers squealed on Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, that they did not worship the statute. When confronted they refuse to worship the statute. The three men expressed their faith in God to saved them but if God chose not to save them they would not worship the statute. Nebuchadnezzar was furious and ordered them thrown in a furnace made at the maximum temperature. They were thrown in the furnace but
their clothes or bodies were not harmed. Nebuchadnezzar ended up praising God for how he delivered the three men. If you were one of the three men, what would you do? Would you bow down and worship the statute? Would you be willing to be a martyr? Think about it! This may happen one day in America!!!

Daniel 4
In verse 1-18, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a tree, which was chopped down, its branch trimmed, the leaves stripped, and the fruit scattered. The stump and its root bound with iron and bronze would remain in the ground. Let the man become like an animal, till seven times pass by for him. In verses 19-27, Daniel interpret the dream, and said that the tree would be Nebuchadnezzar, and he would be driven away from people and live with wild animals and eat grass like cattle. He told him to renounce his sins and show compassion on the oppressed. In verse 28-36, it happened as Daniel said it would. Nebuchadnezzar regained his sanity and praised God and repented of his evil ways, and his kingdom was restored to him and he was greater than ever.

Revelation 6
In Revelation 6, the Lamb opened the seals. This was the first of three sevenfold numbered series of judgement (there was the seven trumpets in Revelation 8-9 and the seven bowls in Revelation 16). The first four seals were the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. The fifth seal was Martydom, the sixth seal was earthquake, moon turn black and the wrath of the Lamb. The seventh seal will be opened in Revelation 8. Some people believe that the Lord will come back at the end of the Tribulation and the next thing to happen on the prophetic time table is the revealing of the AntiChrist. What do you think?

Today's Reading Daniel 1-2; Revelation 5

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Daniel 1; <Daniel 2; Revelation 5

Leviticus 26 and 27
Daniel 1
All of the royal family and nobility were taken in the Babylonian captivity ri Babylon. Daniel and his three friends Sharach, Mesach and Abed-nego were taken to Babylon. They were given royal food and wine. Daniel and his three friends resolved not to be defiled from such food and wins so they asked for a diet of vegetables and water. In ten days of this diet they looked better and healthier than others who were on the royal food. God had honored their integrity when they decided to follow Him. He gave wisdom and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning that Daniel could understand visions and dreams.

Daniel 2
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream when he woke up he did not remember his dream. He call the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers and asked for an interpretation of the dream he had. The astrologers asked him for the dreams but he could not remember it. He demanded that they gave him the dream and interpretation. No one could except for Daniel. When Daniel was summoned he gave all the praise and glory to God. He told Nebuchadnezzar the dream and the interpretation. Here are some links that speak about the dream and interpretations.

Revelation 5 with Commentaries, verse by verse

Revelation 5
There was a scroll with writings on both sides and sealed with seven seals. A mighty angel asked who was worthy to break the seals on the scroll. No one ube heaven or on earth could open the seal EXCEPT for the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. This was the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ!!
He is worthy to take the scroll and open the seals (v. 9) because He is the Savior of the world by the blood He shed, He made a kingdom of every tribes and tongues and a kingdom of priests (v. 10). There was wondrous praise that the Lamb is worthy, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be there to worship Jesus Christ for who He is and for what He has done for us. Again this is hard for us to imagine or visualize or comprehend with the five senses that we have. Praise God.

Today's Reading Leviticus 26-27; Revelation 4

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: <Leviticus 26; <Leviticus 27; Revelation 4

Leviticus 26 and 27
Leviticus 26 is divided into two sections The first dealing with the reward for obedience (v.1-13)and the second is the punishment for disobedience. God reminded them (how quickly they forgot) not to make and worship idols, and to observe the Sabbaths (14.46). Please note that every promise in the Bible may not apply to us. We have to look at the passage, the historical situations, we have to look at little words before the promise such as IF, BUT, THEN, etc.. In today's passage we have the word IF. We tend to look at promises and say that's for me without looking at the prepositions or how the verse is related to passage. So in verse 3, IF ..then in verse 4 I will.... What it boils down in the Christian life at times are situations where God says "If you obey... then....." This section then says if you obey, you will have rain, abundant crops, prosperity, peace, conquer your enemies, etc...
We like this section.
The other section dealing with punishment, as humans, we don't want to deal with judgment and punishment. Notice the word again IF..., But IF...God will, logically bring the opposite of the promises above, that is, drought, famine, poverty, enemies invading, war and so on.
It is true that we are under the new Covenant where we are saved unconditionally but there are spiritual laws which when broken have consequences. Paul said in Galatians 6.7 "Do not be deceived. God is not mocked. A man sows what he reaps, from that nature will reapdestruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life." A very good historical example of this happened constantly in the book of Judges, when the Israelites, sinned, God punished them, they repented, God forgave them and the cycle repeats itself. Do not think because we are Christians that when we sin we can get away with it. In Hebrews 12.5-6, the author spoke about God disciplining His children because He loves them. There is no secret formula in the successful Christian life other than trusting and obeying just like the old hymn said "Trust and obey for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey."

We are almost done with Leviticus! Leviticus 27 speaks about redeeming what is the Lord. This chapter deals with vows made to the Lord. This meant that male and female servants (v.1-8), animals (v. 9-13), houses (v.14), land (v. 16-25) were voluntarily given to God. However sometimes, the people reneged on their vows. There was a penalty they had to pay if they wanted to redeem (buy it back with a price) what they had promised to God. Remember what you promise God, He expects you to keep that promise and He will hold you to that promise.

Leviticus is an interesting book, dealing primarily with the Holiness of God. He expected the Israelites to be holy. To approach a Holy God, you have to have a spirit of humility and a repentant heart to reconcile, and to give restitution where it is needed. God made a way for the Israelites to approached Him via the sacrificial system, the areas of moral conduct, and the Feast days. We also have a way to God today and it is through Jesus Christ. Let us continually strive to seek for God and be holy because "God made him who had no sin to be sin; so that in him we are might become the righteousness of God." 2Cor 5.21 Because of the cross, we are sinners have been made righteous.

Revelation 4 with Commentaries, verse by verse

Revelation 4
Revelation 4 is a description of the throne room of heaven. Even with the the vision of the throne room that John saw, it is still hard to imagine with the five senses what was there. There are a lot of symbolisms in this chapter, that we would have difficulty visualizing and imagining what John saw. There were four living creatures that constantly say ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. We came across the phrase ‘holy, holy, holy’ in Isaiah 6 when Isaiah had a vision of God seated on a throne. In the Isaiah’s account there were seraphs repeating the phrase ‘holy, holy, holy’ A description of these four creatures appeared before in Ezekiel 1. In that passage, each of the four creatures had four face, human in front, lion on the right, ox on the left and eagle, behind.
The main emphasis in this chapter is that of WORSHIP from the praise of ‘holy, holy, holy’ to ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’ Take some time, in a quiet place and meditate on this vision of the throne room that John saw.
