Today's reading 2 Kings 1-3; Matthew 12.1-23
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 2Kings 1; 2Kings 2; 2Kings 3
2Kings 1 Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. He sent messengers to consult with Baal-Zebub instaed of the living God. Elijah heard about this and met with Ahaziah's messengers and told them that Ahaziah would die. Ahaziah sent three companies of men on separate times to arrest Elijah, but each time fire from heaven would destroy them. The captain of the third company begged for his life. The angel told him to go with them to see Ahaziah. Elijah told Ahaziah because he went to consult with Baal-Zebub instead of God, he would die.
Let us make absolutely sure that the God we pray to and consult with is not a god or idol but the One and Only living God, the God of Jesus Christ.
2Kings 2 in Verse 1-18, Elijah was taken up to heaven in this chapter. Before he was taken up, his successor, Elisha asked him for a double portion of his spirit. Elijah said that was a difficult thing to grant but if Elisha saw him taken up his wish would be granted. In v.19-22, the water was purified (healed) through a miracle and Elisha was jeered by young men, and he called a curse on them and they were mauled.
